Six Strategies to Better Learning For Children

Posted by Unknown

No matter high your education level may be, there is still a lot more for you to learn. There seems to be too much information and at times, it seems inundated for us absorb everything. The world is ever changing and we need to keep on learning to keep up with the pace. Learning can be difficult for adults, let alone children who have to put in double or even triple effort just to understand new information. So whatever strategy we parents come across that can help learning for children, we will learn and apply it.
Below are 6 simple strategies which we can apply to help children learn better and retain more information.
1. Morning is the Best Time to learn
Studies have shown that the best time to learn is in the morning. When the mind is fresh after a good night sleep, a child can concentrate better, and with better focus, he or she can absorb more knowledge and understand better.
2. Conducive Environment
One of the great strategies is to create an environment conducive for your children to learn. They may not like the idea but TV and radio should turn off. There should be no distraction whatsoever which could take away their focus. Undeniably, some children actually need to have some background music to learn better. As such, go for classical music which is soft and soothing. You will be amazed by the result brought about by this soothing music. It has been said that Baroque played on strings has actually enable learners to learn better.
3. Proper Desk and Chair
Let your child do his or her study at a desk, with a comfortable chair, preferably those that they use in school. Look around the house and find an appropriate area when they can learn effectively. Preferably, don't set the study area in his or her room as the bed can become a sort of temptation. Ensure easy access to the learning materials as when your children have to get their material further away, the disruption will break their learning momentum.
4. Learn to Relax
Teach your children to breathe deeply so as to relax their mind before and in between studies. When a person is not under any pressure, he or she will be able to learn much better than a person with a lot of stress in mind.
5. Set Goals
Many children and adults perceive learning as a chore. They learn just to fulfill certain responsibilities. However, if you perceive learning the wrong way, your learning route would be a long way. A great way to ensure effective learning for children is to teach then how to set their own goals. When your children set their own goals, no matter the short term ones or the long term ones, they will definitely be able to learn better. Before any session, ask questions like, 'What am I going to achieve today?', 'What technique am I going to master?' or 'What is the reason behind an observation?' With clearer goals in mind, a learner can learn and understand better.
6. Take a Break
A continuous one hour or two of self-study session without any break in between will not be beneficial to your children. Make sure your children have their breaks of about 5 to 10 minutes after every half an hour of study. Researchers have proven that we can learn the best in the first few minutes and the last few minutes of a learning session. Hence, a long session without any break will only be a waste of time. Have breaks in between for your children not only relax their mind, but also help them to learn more effective and to retain more learnt information.
In today's modern world where knowledge plays an important role, education becomes one of the main keys to success. To get better education, children simply need to learn more effectively. A lot of factors do play a part in how much children can learn, so being their parents; we should help to make learning for children more effectively.
